During the month of February, schools, churches, libraries, bookstores, community and professional organizations, and interested citizens are urged to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month by hosting an African American Read-In.

The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. North Shore Area Section collaborated with Neptune Public Library for the 2022 Read-In. Members from the section and library staff selected books written by an African American Author and recorded a summary of the book. The recording was shared on the Library's Facebook page. The library also donated 40 books for the section. The donated books were given to children participating in the after-school program at the Summerfield Elementary School in Neptune and Alphabets Preschool Center in Asbury Park.

In addition to the recording with the library, members participated in virtual and in-person storytime.
